Redemptive Forces in the World

Tuesday, March 31
Glenn M. Miller, “Redemption in the New Testament,” The Great Irruption: Christ’s Work on the Cross

Anthony says,
If you can, r(e-r)ead "Redemption", at Ask Dr. Cobb, Process and Faith (http://www.processandfaith.org/askcobb/2006/04-redemption.shtml)

Finally, be prepared to discuss a character/group of characters from a fictional artistic work--in film, tv show, literature, theatre, or art--who acts as a redemptive force in the world. To preface your remarks, be prepared to give a very brief summary of the story/artwork. Even though I'm sure it's a disservice, please try to keep your sharing time capped at 5 minutes. I'm banking some time for discussion of each person's choice.

I just ran across this and thought that it fit (if a bit tangentially) into our conversation tonight. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/31/health/31case.html?_r=1

I know it's not Easter yet, but here's a small taste of it (bad pun intended--you'll see).

So in the Old Testament study, we discussed the Suffering Servant of Isaiah. Like many of the other figures within the visions of the prophets, the suffering servant was a personification of Israel as a whole.

Luke reimagines the suffering servant and the Kingdom toward which it points, but I think it keeps true to the universal openness of the Kingdom imagined by the prophetic text.

Unrelated, APM's Speaking of Faith microblogged on its Facebook status the following: "Truth is shattered into a thousand pieces when God throws it down to earth." (Link).

A book just published this year looks promising as a survey of atonement from a variety of theological perspectives and ending with his own perspective that utilizes theological tools of the Paraclete (Advocate/Holy Spirit) and han (a very complex Korean term for suffering).
